Sony Vaio VGN-NR31J/S

Thread Starter
Hi this is my first post so forgive any faux pas.

i have a VGN-NR31J/S with vista home premium and a Nvidia 8400m GT. this laptop has faired me well but after an epic hassle with the sound drivers and again with the display driver i am stuck debating downgrading to XP.

it has better sound drivers and i have read that the nvlddkm display error doesnt occur.

also if vista runs smoothly on this laptop im thinking XP will run Very Nicely.

the main problem is drivers i have found the drivers for this laptop at

http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/downl...-1&s=-1&m=3259

But these are listed as vista. will at least the Wireless driver work on XP, i need the touchpad, sound, wireless, graphics driver, chipset and mem card reader/writer to run properly on xp.

Any tips ?

Thanks all

1. List out the current device models and manufacturers fromj within your device manager.

2. Search the manufacturer sites for XP related drivers.

3. Chipset driver can be found at Intel

4. GPU = nvidia

5. You will lose many default Sony utilities and system managemeny when moving to XP.

6. NO, Vista and XP performances cannot be compared, each one has its ups and downs. XP running "nicer" than Vista is only a personal observation and preference. I can say of the opposite.

Good lucks.

cheers ...
