Asus W3J RAM

Hi all,

I probably haven't been on here in a year, but I need some help! I have a W3J that I bought in August of 2006. It's been a good laptop, other than the fact that the video card comes unseated and will crash randomly. I finally solved that problem last week by putting some arctic silver on the chip and putting strips of foam on the backplate that apply a little pressure where the video card meets the motherboard.

Anyway, I bought it with 2GB of RAM installed (thus, both slots are full). I noticed a couple of days ago that DDR2 is dirt cheap nowadays and 4GB could be had for less than $40 on newegg.

Two questions:

1) I read that the second RAM slot (the one I originally thought was hard-mounted to the board) is actually user-accesible underneath the keyboard. Is this true?

2) Will the motherboard on the W3J work with 2GB dimms? Of course, the list of supported RAM on Asus' website is older than King Arthur, so it's of no use.

Thanks for the help!

1.) Yes, both slots are user accessible and one is under the keyboard

2.) no, you can't put more than 2GB RAM in your notebook (see Darq's post)
