Working Drivers for M1730 (2 x 8800m GTX)

Thread Starter
I have a Dell M1730 with 2x8800m GTX video cards and after trying drivers from a variety of sources, I still haven't been able to get a solid 30+ fps in WoW (world of warcraft).

I did a clean install of Windows XP and started off with the drivers on Dell's website, which gave me roughly mid 20s fps in WoW.

I tried drivers from LaptopVideo2Go and the X-Treme G and neither of those can get me over the 30fps I'm looking for.

I've tried turning SLi on and off and it doesn't help with performance. In the nVidia control panel, I noitced one of the cards have IRQ 17 while the other has 0 - is this normal?

Any help is appreciated - I'm running out of ideas of what to try next.

NVIDIA is now providing reference drivers for laptops and the ones I have tried have been great.

Mine uses IRQ16 and 17. 16 shares with the 8800 and the physics card and a few PCI Express stuff.

Oh and you should install the Intel chipset drivers first thing after a fresh install. Windows has a generic driver that can casue all kinds of problems.

The new drivers that you can get from nVidia do have a pretty solid performance upgrade, but there are some WoW specific issues here to consider.

First of all, do you run in windowed mode? WoW + SLI + windowed mode = bad news. I don't know what the deal is but it just runs horribly in windowed mode. If you do run in windowed mode on Vista you can turn off Aero and that helped mine a bit. And at this point I went ahead and shut off SLI too and just let it run on one card. It's the best setup I have been able to come up with.

Hmmm...if you are unable to get 30fps in World of Warcraft with an M1730, there is something VERY VERY WRONG with your setup. 2x8800's should completely CRUSH this game...I mean, if you turn V-sync on with all the bells and whistles @1920x1200 w/4xAA/16xAF, the system should STILL stay PEGGED at 60FPS, regardless of the action. This is an old game...these rigs can destroy Crysis and COD4/5, FFS, so there is absolutely no reason you should have to search for a 'good driver' in order to play a MMORPG that was released in 2004...! Not sure what you're doing wrong, but look for something more fundamental...

I would agree with that and the numbers are through the roof when I run full screen with SLI either on or off. There are multiple people with documented issues with SLI in windowed mode.
