Studio 15 surface area to soft?

I went to Best Buy to look at a Studio 15 model. I noticed the surface around the mousepad where you rest your wrists.... It was warm and it felt really soft...almost a bit sticky soft. Is that because of the clear finish? I'd rather have a smooth surface than a soft one that feels like the smushy like varnish hasn't completely dry. Could this have been an anomily or would my model be like this if I bought one?

that's a bit unusual to me, sounds like someone shopping at Best Buy had messy hands.

That's what I was thinking too. Did you clean your hands after?
