T43p SATA Second hard drive caddy

I purchased a 320GB SATA II hard drive to use in a T43p second hard drive caddy and I have been unable to use it because the computer doesn't recognize it. I was using a 200 GB SATA hard drive in the same caddy without a problem. For the heck of it I tried the 320GD HD in my IBM T60p's 2nd hard drive caddy, and it worked no problem. Has any body experienced this problem? I'm wondering if maybe I need to update the SATA driver or bios.

May be because it is a SATA II drive?

How did you get the T43/P ultrabay to take a SATA on the first place, since it is designed to take only PATA drives by default?

Actually I ordered the caddy and it came with an SATA interface. I was using a Hitachi 200 GB SATA drive with it that worked great. I bought the 320GB thinking that it would work as well.

I see, since I have heard many users "tweaking" the caddy from a T60 series to use with the T43

My thinking is still an issue with the SATA II.

Although it had worked with a 200GB SATA HDD previously without issue, I had a sneaking suspicion that the issue could be the caddy itself because it was an unbranded knockoff I had purchased on eBay. To confirm my suspicions I bought a thinkpad branded SATA caddy. Voila problem solved. The 320 GB SATA II Drive now works without a hitch. I learned my lesson the hard way. What I thought was a bargain ended being the problem and it cost me more in the long run!

Can you look at both caddies closely and see any differences? Take pics and share with us? It will be great to warn forum members about this.
