It turns on, but the screen is blank.

I figured out that if I connect an external monitor to it, it actually works (on the laptop screen, not using the external monitor but just plugging one into it) for some reason.

Not that it matters, since the screen has a bunch of green jagged lines streaking through it I get a BSOD when Windows tries to boot up anyway
.

On a side note, my laptop is out of warranty but thanks to this:

I still have a few months to try to claim a new laptop since I'm pretty positive the GPU is the problem.

My question/problem is, I don't have my Proof of Purchase anymore (which is required to apply for the settlement). I've looked on the Dell website, but I can't find anywhere that mentions anything about printing out a PoP. If I called Dell, would they be able to send me one, or am I just out of luck?

my nvidia 7950gtx just died last night. blue dotted artifacts on the boot up screen then just a black screen when the os attempts to boot.

i checked the dell website for warranty and it says mine ended on 4/27/2010.

i went to nvidiasettlement.com, but settlement is now over.

i guess i could try baking my gpu like everyone else.

Does anyone know if the fx3500 has the same melting solder problem as the 7xxx series? I recently acquired an M1710 and had to get a refurbished 7900gs as it was the cheapest I could find. Didn't know about the fx3500 though and if that's better, I might get one if I see one for future proofing! My 7900gs card seems to idle at almost 60C which seems a bit high for a brand new refurb...

Thanks.

The Quatro line seems to be holding its ground better than the GE Force. But melting solder can happen to any graphic cards.

cheers ...
