Vista Speech Recognition not starting

When I go to start windows speech recognition i get the following message:
''The wizard could not start. Make sure your audio hardware is working properly and check your audio configuration in the Audio Devices and Sound Themes control panel''

The speakers, headphone, microphone, and external micrphone are all working fine with other programs.

I am running vista 32bit home premium on a Toshiba a215 laptop.

Is this the first time you start the Speech Recognition? Have you reviewed the setup to "see" the hardware?

This would be the first time I have used the software. I cannot get to a setup screen.

reinstall the audio drivers and try again..i hope it will work..
