Laptop PCG-4G1M just can not start at all. Any help, please?

Tried to start Sony laptop model PCG-4G1M with Win XP - the laptop does not start !

No light in on/off switch or in battery indicator.

Tried to start just the CD player with its own A/V MODE switch - same story, no light, no response at all.

When I turned the computer off last week, battery was at 70%, never had power problem with battery charged at this level.
Plugged in the charger (which works perfectly well), in hope it will help - again computer did not turn on it simply looks dead.

Removed battery and wiped the pins properly and gently - still the same, laptop does not respond to on/off switch.
Got 2 tips - to remove battery for half hour then plug it back. Also, to try start the laptop with battery removed, directly with charger. None of tips worked - laptop still can't start.

The laptop has been used properly all the time , no drops, shaking, hits, overheat, or any form of mishandling.
This refusal to start comes as a complete surprise, never happened before and I desperately need documents with my study assignment
At the present time I neither can afford to pay what repairmen usualy charge nor buying a new machine.

Can somebody ,please, tell me how to bring this laptop back to life?

Thanks in advance
Margaret

You might try checking the memory. Take out one RAM module and try to start it. If that doesn't work, put it back in and take out the other module and try to start it. If it starts with either one or the other module out, then the module is bad and you just need to replace it.

However, if it still doesn't start, then your motherboard is probably toast and you'll need a new one. You'll need to contact Sony or your reseller to replace it, and if that's the case, I hope you're still under warranty because motherboards are expensive!

If it is the motherboard and you don't want to or can't afford to replace it, then you can still access your data by taking out the hard drive and either plugging it into another laptop or putting it in an external enclosure.
