I have an Asus Z71V, and for awhile now it has been having difficulty displaying black and other dark colors. Instead, where dark areas should be, there are flickering vertical blue lines. It's the worst when I first boot up. Sometimes a couple of lines will stay on the far left when the other ones fade out. Other times the blue lines will go away completely, then they'll suddenly appear again later.
Occasionally I'm able to make them disappear by tilting the laptop up about an inch off the table and dropping it. Not the best solution, but it does work sometimes.
I replaced the LCD yesterday, and everything appeared OK. Then when I turned it on today, the dreaded blue lines had appeared again. Wonderful.
I searched around to see if anyone else had encountered this problem before, and couldn't find anything. The closest I found was someone with green lines, and the only solution suggested was to switch to a specific linux distro that I've never heard of. I'd really like to keep my Ubuntu and XP dual boot setup...there's gotta be a better way to fix it than changing OS's.
Any ideas? Has anyone ever encountered this before? Should I try replacing the graphics card? Buying a new computer is not really an option financially.
Thanks!
