Inspy8200 side-mount DVD--need help finding

Thread Starter
Well, a buddy of mine just had his 8200's DVD-drive die on him, and for some reason it doesn't like the DVD module he's got for the front bay, so I'm trying to find a source, part numbers, anything that can lead us to getting him a replacement internal drive.

Also, if anyone has suggestions on debugging the module, those would be appreciated. I'm emailing him the link, and if he's got any additional data I'll post it as i get it.

TIA!

Try Ebay they have tons of them listed for that laptop

Actually nearly any slim Optical drive for laptops will work with the 8200. The faceplate won't be an exact match, but that little pull tab that keeps the drive in place is only attached to the Dell drive with two screws.

As Evil said any slim drive should work as they were standardized a long time ago and all you have to do is replace that tab. However, if I'm not mistaken, the way the faceplate connects to the drive is also standardized, so when you get the new drive you just put the old Dell faceplate on it and it will be perfect.

Drive Faceplates are never standardized, even from the same manufacturer. Odds are the faceplate from your original drive WON'T work.
