LCD now turns off when lid is closed :)

hey guys,

for those of you that had the problem with the LCD not turnin' off when you closed the lid, I believe the problem is with the omega driver. I uninstalled it and then installed the one that's on the Dell CD, and now my LCD turns of when i close the lid.

I have the latest Omega release and my screen turns off fine when closed. Make sure you have the latest (2.5.36b) and not the 2.5.36a that was initially released based off the CAT 4.4 as it may have been one of the issues fixed.

i've got the 2.5.36a and no problems here, but i've found that the little 'buttom' that is above the numlk led [which controls if the LCD turns off], can be kind of loose, i noticed this after i put my lappy back together after doing the keyboard mod........

just my 2 cents

The "B" version of those drivers mess my screen-turning-off-ability up as well. If I back it down to a previous version of the Omegas, it works just fine. Hopefully it'll be resolved in the next release.

hmmm.., maybe the lil button, cause' i too took apart my lappy for the keypad mod around the same time i installed the dell video driver. Maybe the lil button was off before. Oh well, should i go back to the omega driver? Max Payne is still runnin' fine on my 8600, is that a pretty high res. game? Also, i only have 384 mem, should i upgrade? If so, how should i upgrade, just dump one 128 and buy a 512?

yeah, dump the 128 and reaplce it with a higher memory module. If you're running the original Max Payne, that's not exactly a "high end" game anymore. I know my button for when the lid closes works fine, it's just an issue with the drivers. I have a theory--what screen do you have? WXGA, WSXGA+, or WUXGA?

Your 8600 will play Far Cry just fine, I have the settings to high and game play at 1028x768 is smooth, just make sure you have the 1.1 patch for the game, (they will soon release 1.2 patch) I am keeping my frame rate at around 30 frames, The game is a Blast and the Graphics are amazing!!!!!

Specs 8600 1.7
128 Nvidia 5650 FXGo
768Mb 333DDr
60Gig Hd
15.4 WSXGA+

i only have a 1.4, and you've got a 1.7. Also, i only have 384 mem, you've got 768 mem. i'm sure your 8600 is a lil more powerful than mine...

oh well.., it's all good. I really wanna try Hitman: Contract

I have the omega drivers and the option to turn off isnt even listed through dell quickset, is this why yours wouldnt turn off before? Would be a handy feature to have, i often close the lid and forget about my laptop for ages!

Yeah, that's really probably worth only a few frames... but the memory may be the thing to watch out for (These says 512MB+ is really expected of games). In any case, you've got the card and thats the main thing

will my radeon 7500 32MB play farcry???
I don't know for sure, but I don't think so, the minimum specs for Farcry include a "64 MB DirectX® 9.0b-compatible graphics card"...
