R40 Serial number lost

Hi guys, please excuse any mistakes i make but i am new to this forum.

Please could anyone offer help with the following:-

IBM r40 2681 windowss xp.

i recently got hold of this machine and it appeared to have no OS hard drive wiped.

but on booting i was able to recover the factory install from the IBM hidden partition and using the IBM tools reinstall the OS without any problems.

all good so far, the system now works fine accept the Access IBM functionality it appears that no sytem model type is recorded in the system settings and niether is the serial number.

Any ideas how to get this info into the system information or bios settings?

One probably could, but not within NBF

We frown upon BIOS hacking and hardware security bypassing. Try contacting the previous owner?

thanks qhn, but i was hoping for something slightly more informative than your post. unless you have about 450 million to reinstate the woolworths group i dont think their it support is in a position to help. i am not after a bios hack as you put it this is a ligitamte system recovery process. look before you leap.

what i was really after was the process to recover the original asset tags for this machine. either from another experienced technician on this forum or even a route to follow via IBM/Lenovo themselves. just need to talk to someone who has experienced this issue before. years ago i had similar situation with other manufacturers and there tatoo system but being in the trade i had ready access to their support network, unfortuanately havent had any contact with these networks for some years.

anyone else out there with some constructive advice would be appreciated.

Dont get me wrong. If I feel that you started a hacking and bypassing thread, I would have closed it.

I understand that you need assistance and help in digging into BIOS information - this process alone is not welcome on NBF, regardless of your intention.

My post was simply a friendly reminder of NBF position.
