5620 DS - Video problem + fan runs constantly

Hi,

The video display on my 5620 DS has been acting up lately. The pixels randomly get a streaky/blotchy look and some of the desktop icons are blurred out. Any ideas out there on what may be causing this? The video driver on this machine is an ATI Radeon Mobility 9000 version 6.14.10.6351. I tried to download the latest driver from ATI, but I get an error message "Severe - INF Error - Video driver not found".

The cooling fan on this machine runs constantly also for some reason. When you first turn it on the fan stays off until it warms up and then it turns on and just keeps running. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance for your help or advise.

Could you please explain why you moved my post and just exactly where is it? When I click on the "tech support" shortcut you provided it takes me to some AT&T advertisment. Thanks for your reply.

fan runs constantly

your video problem could be overheating. the gpu needs to cool also. The fan will run constantly when the unit is plugged with hair and dust.

If you own a cat or dog, or have a dusty environment, you gotta follow the lapping guide at the top after six months. A year otherwise. The first time lap the heatsink, and remove the big ball of hair obstructing cooling on your laptop. It will take you about thirty minutes with the right tools.

For further six-month intervals, you can probably get away with opening up the plastic cover and using a thin business card to pick up the hair accumulated next to the heat-sink fins.

Also vacuum the bottom of the laptop, where the air intake is.

And look down the air-flow passages on the heatsink, make sure they are not filled with dust. Blow them out.
