HP dv9000 Static noise from speaker

I just got an HP Pavillion dv9000 laptop a few days ago and everything is great, except for this static noise coming from the speaker. It kind of sounds like when you have your TV on a blank screen, but you have the volume as high as it goes. Every now and then there's a little pop or crack sound too. Some important things to note:

- It was a refurb
- The noise immediately stops when the volume is muted
- All drivers are up to date
- If I go into the volume settings, I can slide the volume all the way over to the right side, and the noise stops, but any amount of volume going through the left side and the noise is back
- The noise is the same at any volume level
- If I plug in headphones, there is no noise through the headphones, it only happens on the speakers

At first I thought it wasn't anything big, just a driver update or just a matter of breaking the laptop in, but now after a few days it's starting to get annoying. I don't want to leave the sound on mute all the time, and even when I am listening to audio I can still hear this noise. Has anyone had a similar problem? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? I've looked all day for a solution and can't seem to find anything. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I would try with another power cable (from the wall to the AC brick) and another electrical wall socket first. If the problem persists, reclaim for repair and or replacement.

What happens with headphones?

When the headphones are in, there is no static noise through them (or the speaker), and the sound through the headphones is normal. Once they're back unplugged, the static noise is back. Does that answer the question? If I left out anything I'll surely try to provide any info.

Any help is still appreciated. Thanks

Well no, I haven't mostly because I don't have access to another cord and don't want the hassle of replacing it if that ends up not being the problem. Has that really been a problem for other people? It seems rare that the stupid cord would cause this, but if it is then I'll try to test it. Do I go back to the place I bought it and ask to replace the cord? Would the cord from my old dv6000 work?

This problem is a little less annoying now that I figured out that if I drag the slider all the way to the right speaker the bad noise is gone, but I'd still like to be able to use both. I appreciate the help thus far and any more suggestions anyone may have. Thanks

Some cords are not being made correctly with proper separation inside, causing interferences. And yes, it happened before.

Sure if the other cord fits, try it. And the wall socket ...

Thanks for the clarification, I'll surely try it sometime today hopefully. Again, I appreciate the help and hopefully will have an update soon. Thanks!

UPDATE:
Well I plugged in my old power cable from my old dv6000 (I had no problems with this cord) and I still have the same problem. It may have been just a little bit quieter (?), but that might have just been my brain trying to think it worked.

So, if there are more suggestions I'd be glad to hear them. I really appreciate the help so far. Thanks

Yo I Have the SAME EXACT Problem as You, I Also have the Same Model, Only Mine was New, I got it from Costco, had that problem and exchanged it and now ive had this laptop (same one) for like 2 days and its doing it again! Only mine happens when i have headphones in also. Did you happen to find a fix? I dont think it has to do with the power cord etc, its the speakers for sure or the update i did right after i bought it, also my old laptop that had this problem started lagging rly bad even when i wasnt online at the same time it started so im worried that might happen to this one, Let me know if you find any solutions!

I did get the problem fixed, but it's probably not the easy fix you're looking for. A couple months ago my video card died and I had to get it serviced at the store I got it from. It turns out they had to completely swap the motherboard to fix it. Anyways, when I got it back, the audio problem was fixed. So I guess it's a hardware problem and not a simple little driver update or anything like that.

On a kinda unrelated note, my laptop's video failed again last week, so I sent it back in to repair the repair. Hopefully yours isn't as fragile as mine apparently is.

Well, good luck...hopefully your problem isn't the same as mine and hopefully you can get it figured out. I eventually just gave up and lived with my left speaker muted, but hopefully you'll get it fixed.
