Blue Screen while rebuilding an Insprion E1705

I'm rebuilding an Insprion E1705 from several broken 9400/E1705. I get the following when I install Vista Ultimate 64bit.

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA

STOP: 0x00000050 (0xFFFFFF88010B85800, 0x0000000000000000, 0xFFFFFF8000A696440, 0x0000000000000000)

I have used the Dell Support Blue Screen Trouble-shooting.

It says: Use the Windows Debugger to pinpoint the exact cause of these errors.

Is there a Dos version or self booting CD version of the debugger so I can pinpoint the hardware that is causing the problem.

Have you tried running dells baseline troubleshooting tool? its a hidden partition on all Dells roughly 40-60 MB and if not u can order the cd from dell this will at least test core things that could be the problem such as CPU, RAM, North/South Bridge communication and even the optical drive.

What's the CD called? Diagnostic cd? Resource CD?

If you have the diagnostic CD, those tools will be located on there. Run the CD and do all the tests, see if anything fails.

The Resource CD has Dell's 32 bit diagnostic on it. Just use the F12 menu to boot from it.

Did the 32 bit diagnostic on it & everything showed up fine. So this time I tried to install Vista 64. Went to partition & format when it came up. It partitioned fine but when I tried to format, bamm!! Got an error. The second try I loaded the driver up then tried to partition & format. Same error, so I am assuming the hard drive is the problem. Am I safe to assume that?

Yea that's a safe assumption. That CD should have checked the hard drive too, but it's still possible that it could have passed, but still give errors.

I've had hard drives pass diags before that wouldn't let you reformat. And Hard drives CAN cause bluescreens. Spent the better part of a month (off and on) trying to figure out why I was getting random bluescreens on an AMD desktop system I had built. Finally one day the system rebooted and a hard drive error was displayed on the BIOS screen.

Ya, I'm assuming it's the hard drive. I ordered another one from Dell. We'll see what happens when I install on that.

Update: I got a new hard drive, plus new memory chips & still the same problem. Perhaps I don't have the correct Chipset drivers. Gonna open the laptop up & ID the Northbridge & Southbridge and look for the Vista 64 bit drivers directly from Intel. Hopefully that work.

Update: Rats!! Still didn't work. Ack!! I just install Windows XP Pro 32bit then do a Vista Compatibility on it. Maybe then i can figure what to do & then get a Vista Ultimate Upgrade.

Update 4/16/09: Finally got Vista Ultimate 64-bit to install. The wireless network card was faulty, so I replaced it. Now the Laptop works like a charm.
