Water Cooled i7 Build ... version 3 - Page 2

Have to agree that it is indeed bottlenecked by the hdd's. As big as you've gone on the last few builds shazza I kind of thought you'd have gone with ssd's by now.

I've been messin with the OCZ Vertex's and I find that they are the best bang for buck/performance goin right now (in ssd land that is). Sure they can't beat the Intel's but they aint that far behind either. Put two of them in a raid 0 and you are nearing the limit of the ich10 chipset (three does) . If you order now I'm sure you could have them by the weekend .

Gots to give it to ya shazza. Some of the best/cleanest builds and pics I've ever seen (here or elsewhere). Not that it is anythang new though .

Ha ... you guys are just trying to get me to make one more upgrade, ain't ya.

Yes, I absolutely agree the HDs are currently the bottleneck. I've been lookin' at the Vertex gang ... SSDs will come.

BUT ... for what I use the computer for, waiting on the HDs really hasn't been an issue. Photoshop runs quickly, Fallout 3 runs seamlessly, and if my Office Apps ran any faster, I'd have to actually get some work done BUT ... I do agree with y'all.

As for screen size ... I have a choice of several big screens to game on (from 58 to 71"), so the novelty of a large monitor is perhaps stale. The 30" is just a little big for me when sitting at the desk. My 27" on my other rig is better for me. I actually feel like I get more immersion sitting at the desk for PC gaming than I do with the Big Screens and the sofa. But, nothing like a good racing game on the PS3 or 360 to get the adrenaline going on the Big Screen. When I'm slashing zombies, I prefer to do it in privacy and not show the whole world how depraved I am.

And, wrt sound ... yeppp, I know it makes a diff. My den at the Florida house has 5.1 surround. We're converting a spare bedroom to my office here in AZ, and then I'll worry about sound. But then, at my advanced age, I'm a tad hard of hearing as the old folks say...

Hi nate ... For fan control, I'm using an Aquaero controller, but have also used the controllers from Sunbeam, Scythe etc.

You can use something like this to control a single fan.
