Windows 7 Better For Gaming

According to an in depth article written by PC Perspective, a slew of nVidia and Ati cards were pitted up against 6 gaming benchmarks on Windows Vista and Windows 7, and the benchmarks on Windows 7 equaled or exceeded overall performance. This may be a hint that when Windows 7 is finally released, it will be a superior operating system for gaming over Vista.

Intresting. I am looking forward to a new version of windows...

I definitively can concur the "better for gaming" statement. Running WoW on W7-64bits partition gets more umphs than on Vista 64bits.

cheers ...

I mean really this is no surprise. Its not like implementing a new(er) OS should ever slow down interactive programming...

Personally I like Vista, but Windows 7 is definatley a cut above. Other than a few annoying Beta related things I'm truly impressed with Windows 7.

Very true. I have it dual boot on the lady's Toshiba M55 (yes old :-)) and it is now always W7 for the day-to-day laptop's works. Only complaint is the Aero support, due to the gpu "lack" (?) of performance

cheers ...

I have been using windows seven for a while and its much better on m90, than vista it uses less ram when running. and something interesting i have found is the differance in system ratings-
Vista- Seven-
Cpu- 5.1 5.3
Ram- 5.1 5.3
Graphics- 5.8 5.7
Aero grap- 5.9 5.7
Hd- 4.8 4.8

I think that the graphics are down on seven because there isnt any real drivers yet? I have noticed the changes most when playing crysis, on vista i could run it on mainstream but on seven i can run it on gamer with somethings on mainstream. Performance is on the whole much better, Any other comments about vista/seven?

In a lot of cases you get higher FPS in XP than Vista. In some cases you can't even run games on XP that run on Vista. Take the good with the bad.

True, if the game requires DX10. I just don't like Vista's interface.

Performance Index comparison on my HP dv7-2040US

Vista: 5.6
Seven: 5.8

Gaming graphics was the limiting factor in both tests, so that says something right there. Yes, the tests are slightly different but that's a big jump. And I have felt the difference.

Why the sad face about something only for Windows 7? Ya, I know Windows 7 ONLY means you have to shell out tons of cash for Windows 7, but this operating system is actually pretty good for a Microsoft product. Not long ago, I wouldn't use any Windows OS unless it was XP. I began using Vista only out of convenience of hardware support but didn't like the slow down that accompanied it. When I upgraded to faster hardware, I began to forget that Vista was even slow at all and began to like it somewhat. Now that I have Windows 7 on my computers, I realize that this version of Windows is where Microsoft actually got it right.

I have found LOTS of cool things about Windows 7. You can run any program in compatibility mode for almost any other version of Windows. This means XP-only drivers and software WILL RUN FINE! Windows 7 is faster than XP. It is more feature-rich than XP. MUCH MORE SECURE than XP. Beautiful interface that can be modified and customized heavily or even dumbed down to Win98-style for performance on older hardware.

With Windows 7 you get Windows XP FREE. If your hardware supports virtualization, you can download a free copy of VirtualPC with Windows XP loaded on it.

My Acer Aspire 5535-5018 got a 3.8 for Gaming 3D Graphics in the performance index with ATI's drivers. With Microsoft's drivers, I got a 5.1 in Gaming 3D Graphics. Both with Windows 7. 99.9% of the hardware in my two brand spanking new laptops is supported on reboot from a fresh Win7 install. In Vista, I had to install a dozen drivers just to get everything working.

Win7 is the way to go folks. I hate saying it, but I am using it more than Linux lately because "it just works" like it should. XP was good, but XP is also a dinosaur. I feel like I am using Windows 95 when I use XP now. Time to upgrade and hop on the new technology. Microsoft is not even selling XP at all anymore except for Netbooks. Once Win7 is released, XP will be only a memory as will Vista.
