Dell STUDIO 17 screen flickering help!!!!!!

I purchased a dell studio 17 off ebay and that is fully working and has a new battery. The man selling it sells alot of laptops that he has fixed or replaced stuff on. He told me it was not refurbished at all but looking at his feedback i think he has replaced the screen and casing on the laptop. Ive only had it a few days and noticed that the screen has started flickering in terms of going light and dull on and off very quickly. It only seems to happen though when im running on battery as its fine when its plugged in. Is this laptop faulty or is it a minor problem?? as i won the bidding very cheap so i want to keep hold of it if there is nothing major wrong with it.

any help on what could be causing the problem asap would be great. thanks people.

the Studio 17 should be under a year old thus under warranty thru dell why not contact him and let him know to transfer whats left on the warranty and have dell take care of it? is the flicker bad and continuous throughout usage on battery?

its sometimes constant and sometimes stops and stats. I think he has replaced the screen so i dont think he can contact the original owner or send it to dell. Im prepared to put up with it and just run fron the plug but could it get worse over time??
please let me know what u would do people

If the issue occurs only on battery, I would take the lcd apart, visually checking for connections, and replacing the inverter if possible.

What kind of battery do you have (how many cells)? What resolution screen do you have (WXGA+, WUXGA, etc)? And what video card do you have?

I really don't know if this problem will get worse with time or not. This is the first time I've heard of this.

Its very perplexing since the problem only occurs on battery I would think it could also be software possibly a video driver issue since it NEVER happens plugged in which would strike out hardware issues. See if you can get the flicker to occur in VGA or SAFE mode.
