New Help With a Dell Laptop

HEY THERE,

I HAVE RECENTLY BOUGHT A NEW DELL LATOP WITH VISTA PRE-INSTALLED. I WAS WONDERING IF YOU NEEDED THE FILES ON THE RECOVERY DRIVE (D TO BE ABLE TO DO A CLEAN INSTALLATION OF VISTA? AND IS IT SAFE TO DELETE THEM? WILL I STILL BE ABLE TO DO A WHOLE NEW CLEAN INSTALL BY JUST INSERTING THE CD ON START-UP?

THANKS IN ADVANCE

I personally always keep the recovery parition, a little insurance goes a long way. It contains the needed drivers and system snap-shot of the delivered comp. Unless you can back it up to an external to be able to use it, I would say just leave it.

but do you actually need toe recovery sector of the hard drive to do a full new clean install of vista?

Unless you have the recovery disks in hand; yes, you do need to have the recovery partition in order to restore the comp to the original state. If not, you can install Vista on your own, and try downloading the drivers and special apps direct from Dell. And sometimes, the recovery partition contains few utilities that one cannot easily find and download after a clean reinstall.
