I've had this 5793 for a while, with the WUXGA matte LCD. Allow me to vent a little and then ask: does anyone else have this problem?
I thought at first I was just comparing it unfairly with my two 22" LCDs on my desk (laptop lcd will always lose), but I've been comparing it next to various laptops in the past couple weeks, and it is abysmal in comparison.
The resolution looks great, but the viewing angle is so horrendous that I can't even view the entire screen from any angle without about 1/3 of the screen turning negative. I would gladly trade the 1920x1200 resolution for 1440x900 if I could get as good a viewing angle on this as the 5 other laptops I have compared it to side-by-side (HP, Gateway, Apple, and 2 Dell ones).
I also can't find an adjective for the brightness/contrast other than "absurd." I couldn't say if it is CCFL or LED backlit, but with the brightness maxed out and plugged into the wall, it is still a strain to read black text on white background. If I have to unplug the laptop, the brightness cuts back probably 25% or so, and it becomes myopia-inducing again.
For whites on screen to appear white, I literally have to have this laptop in a pitch black room. Strong ambient lighting washes the screen out to the point of illegibility. Does anyone else like this screen? Or does mine have a faulty backlight?
