Inspiron 9300 won't come out of hibernate

I put my Inspiron 9300 into hibernate this morning, tried to wake it back up and all I'm getting aftet the Dell logo and status bar (POST) is a black screen with a blinking cursor in the left corner.

When I hit the Play button on the front of the notebook, it brings up the Dell Media Direct logo screen, but nothing happens.

When I boot with my XP CD and go to the recovery console, I can see the hard drive and files, though I can't access most folders because I get an Access Denied message.

I tried booting from my flash drive, but when I do, the flash drive is recognized as the c:\ drive and the hard drive isn't listed.

I also tried unplugging my laptop and battery and held down the power button for a few minutes to discharge any electricity. No luck.

I'm really stuck here and would appreciate your help.

it sounds like the Hard drive has crapped on you.

If you need recover files from the drive, I suggest using an external enclosure for the drive and using another computer see if you can access the files you need.

The hard drive is 3 weeks old. I put it into an external enclosure and tried to boot from it by plugging it into a USB port. It went to the Windows XP boot screen with the Resuming Windows message and then blue screened. I then plugged it into a really old laptop and am able to see the files.

Any ideas on how to get it to boot or should I copy the files to another PC and reformat the drive and start over?

I would copy the files over to another computer via either FTP or maybe just use a flash drive a bunch of times. I don't think I would trust the "new" hard drive anymore but that's just me.

Yeah, I ended up buying a new drive, putting the one that's now giving me problems into an enclosure and just dumped everything off it. Luckily I still have the receipt. Looks like I'm going to wipe it and exchange it for a new one. Time to start doing images with incremental backups. Rebuilding a system twice in three weeks is killing me.
