Hitachi screen: dumb questions - Page 2

Both of you have valid points. Flood's right about not obsessing over things that may not even be a problem, and Animasaki is right about wanting his new $2000+ investment to be prefect. I say, to each his own.

We'll see when it gets here. Perhaps it'll be alright. I have only checked online with the Service Tag #, which told me it's a Hitachi. Who knows, maybe it's better this time.

In any case, I spent quite a bit of money and time on figuring out my config. I also play a lot of high-performance games, and I don't want things zooming around as blurred colors. If I didn't want to game, I wouldn't have bought this type of laptop; it's a huge deal to me.

Anyway, UPS was supposed to deliver it yesterday, but it looks like I won't be getting it 'till tomorrow. I'll post my decision then.

Another thing to consider is that I have heard that the new Hitachi WSXGA screen revisions are going to be shipping, which resolve the issues of the old screen (ie: poor response times and contrast ratio). So I think it best that you have a look at it on this new lappy, reserve judgement, and play a game or something before deciding whether its bad or not.

I recievd my replacement today, it came with a Samsung LCD and NEC DVD+RW.
the Samsung is brighter and whiter and little bit less blurry, but there are more lighter area on the bottom of the screen !!!

and the fan is very noisy on this replacement!!!
so what the hell?? I think i am going to keep my original one, the fan noise really bugs me.
or i'll just return both.

Why don't you just swap the screens and keep the one that isn't noisy? Better yet, and even easier, just swap the fans! Dell would likely never notice and it solves your problem....

UPDATE:

It ISN'T alright. Dell itself isn't alright. Dell is horrible. I'm shocked at how bad they are.

After receiving this second laptop (might as well be an exact duplicate of the first one; the screen has identical flaws), I've gone through more emails and phone calls than I care to mention here trying to get this fixed.

Only now, at the end of the *21* day return period, were we FINALLY able to negotiate anything with Dell. They haven't responded at all to my last three emails. I have been transferred so many times, I can't remember who finally helped me resolve this.

You know what the 'resolution' ended up being? I'm returning (both of) my Inspiron 9100 for a full refund, and I'm buying the Hypersonic Aviator CX5 tomorrow.

I can't express how dissappointed I am. I honestly believed customer 'service' could never be so poor out of a respectable company. Dell, congratulations. You've proved me wrong, big time.

Gone are the Dell Customer Service glory days unfortunately

Were they better in the past?

I'm really surprised at them. I expected Dell to have great service. It's really too bad... if they had helped me, I would have stuck with them.

Might be worth a try, but your service manual that came with your laptop still lists the 21 day return period as being 30 days...... Mine does anyway. So if my new screen doesn't work out, Willing to give the newer hitachi a try if that is what is sent. The Technician is suppose to be coming over tonight after 5pm so we'll see soon enough.....

Here's to hoping.

Edit: guess I won't find out about the new Hitachi's, they sent me a Samsung this time and this thing is night and day from the original Hitachi......

That's awesome, jmar5; congrats! If Dell had done the same for me, they'd still have my money.

I've ordered my Hypersonic CX5 today, having sent them an email regarding custom painting and (of course) their monitor quality.

The next morning, I got a response from a nice, understanding rep. I had mentioned ghosting and light leakage, and you know what? The rep knew what BOTH were, and assured me that their monitors are top-class only, with neither problem.

The machine I ordered is better in almost every way than the 9100, at the same price. I'll make a new thread reviewing it when it arrives. It'll be a while!

Hope the Hypersonic works out for you then. May I ask, what colour(s) have you chosen for the custom painting?

wish you the best with the new machine, and am looking forward to your review. I am kinda surprised that it worked out. Luck of the draw I guess.

sakor1, I actually only found out the price on that email. It turns out that the painting can run anywhere from $399 - $599. I decided, therefore, not to go with that.

rincewind, thanks for the links! Those are just what I wanted to see. I can't wait!
