i dismissed the discussion. because it leads no where.

here is my input:

i think the m12 will have double the pixel pipelines, be 145mhz faster and have 512mb ddr3 ram.

satisfied?

did we accomplish anything?

no, I just wasted 30 seconds.

this is just as constructive:

BLAAAAH!

i was being sarcastic, who cares what happens, just go with it.

No such things as m12, or m16 and the next mobility AGP based chip will not use GDDR3.

word to that

Oh boy... so, for arguement's sake...

I speculate (I love that word) that the next mobility GPU's will look like USB pen drives. They will all be external and comminucate with your screen via WiFi G Turbo to send images to your notebook. Now, remember, this is just speculation but I have good word from the Aliens orbiting earth in ultra stealth mode that this technology isn't too far off.

What I'm surprised about is that Sager hasnt tried to put a desktop graphics chip in a notebook. If you think about it, there is all this extra space for extra harddrives, why couldnt they use it for desktop graphics? They use desktop processors so I think they could handle the ehat issues. It wouldnt be easy but i bet its possible. Think about it, something no slower than the Radeon 9700. That would be really cool.

Desktop graphic cards are much larger than hard drives. No the heat would not be handled. Havent you seen the fans that they mount on the desktop video cards? How would that ever fit into a notebook? You are wrong, it isnt possible, so your better off betting your money elsewhere. However, I agree with you in that it would be cool

Let it go. X-file was cancelled years ago.

I'm not talking about something like the GeForceFX 5950, that would definately be impossible without a laptop the size of a briefcase, but I'm talking about the 9700 Pro or the 9800 Pro, they have fairly small heatsinks. And if you use copper then you dont need as big of a heatsink. Look at processors, they have huge heatsinks in desktops compared to laptop models. I'm not sayingits likely, I'm saying its possible given the room used for moble graphics and a hard drive. Also they sould underclock the chip to generate less heat and get better performance than anything currently avaiable for laptops.

yeah, I totally agree. I mean, you wouldn't use a desktop AGP card as such, but why not use the 9800 chipset. Like someone stated, desktop CPUs are used in notebooks routinely, even though those CPUs use massive heatsink.fan arrangements in desktop. Arguably, this has already happened with the 4200go. That was a great part when it was launched (obvioously since superceded) so maybe Clevo should think again. Then again, the next gen mobile GPUs are near, so it's probably not worth the bother now.

someone mentioned this idea before. just like external soundcards, we could have external video cards. i think its do-able.

a 2.5" or 3.5" enclosure-type deal with a desktop vid card inside? .... this you would hook up when you needed the speed for gaming, and when you wanted to go portable for work or whatever, you could just leave it at home and run off the notebook gpu.

..... not a bad idea.

Has anyone noticed that falcon-nw's lappys are running 9700turbo's? Another question I have is. are all mobility 9700's 8x agp capable because some centrino lappys with 9700's are only rated at 4x agp..............

Not a bad idea, but not possible at the moment. You woudnt be able to get the stuff moving back and forth from this external vid card, to the notebook fast enough. Trust me its been discussed before. Maybe later when there is a faster medium... but not right now.

...

Falcon's notebooks are Clevos, which were being sold by PC Torque and Sager a couple of weeks before.

Have you checked to see if a 9700 ATI Mobility Turbo actualy is listed at ATIs website?
