its configration is like this :

17 inch screen
4 gb ram ddr2
9600gt turbo cache CUDA ddr2 1gb
500 gb hdd

i play mostly cod4 promod, when i play i dont get enough fps, i needed 125 fps at continuous rate to play cod4 flawlessly, in game fps varies from 40 to 90, it s very irritating, ibought this lapi coz of 96oo GT, but its not giving me good performance although its a good card, i hav vista premium, pls help me , is there any way also to overclock it, and one question more , can i also install xp on my lapi ????

Option 1
If you want to actually play like a pro with that setup on that game you will need to use an older direct x version to get higher fps (if cod supports it). Mind you, you can still play the game w/o such high fps, you will just run slower, jump lower, and shoot slower. That's CoD for you though (and pretty much any FPS but CoD even more so).

Option 2

You can install XP* and/or overclock the card. Tools to overclock driver-level include ATITool, NTune, and RivaTuner. If none of those work then you will either need to change your driver or learn how to overclock rom-level. Regardless, you will still need to significantly lower in game settings to get 125 fps constant.

*You just need to acquire an XP CD and find out where you can get XP drivers for your hardware.

Tried this?

Keep im mind that Vista is being delivered with DirectX 9 "included" (??); it might not let you install.

What about searching for game patches direct from game sites?

cheers ...

CoD used to have an option to use DX7 (as opposed to DX9) on CoD2. CoD4 is a DX9 Game (NOT DX10)!!! However, I thought it would let you use an older renderer just like CoD2 did.

And installing XP after another operating system is installed is a pain. It rewrites the MBR to only boot XP and you have to fix it yourself. This is for installing XP on another partition of the same hard drive though. I'm assuming you meant to say install XP on another partition (not drive) earlier?

Lowering your settings and using one of those tools to overclock is the easiest option. If this doesn't work and CoD doesn't let you use an older directx version then you're just gonna have to settle for not being able to play with 125 fps constant. I've seen a few pros play without that fps (including clanmates) so 125 fps isn't strictly a requirement to be a great player.
