i think my 8700 sli is failing, a lot of stuttering and screen tearing. im gonna try to get it replaced, anyone know if this card is still available ? or will i get the 8800
i was disappointed with the 8700...

edit: according to the dell website, ordering a 8700 "May delay your XPS M1730 ship date"

Really I have no clue but there tends to be no surefire way to tell another user what will happen since it can depend on where you live (in U.S.). My guess is that you will get another 8700M SLI but you can always hope.

Try turning ON Vsync in either the app that's tearing or in the Nvidia control panel. I've had tearing in some games over the years with various Nvidia cards and this has always fixed it for me. Turning on Vsync may reduce your frame rate if you're benchmarking, so this is the only drawback. But what's more important how many frames or how playable is the game? I choose playability every time.

I hope this helps.

the thing is that i turn on vsync in all my games... it stopped for a while though. not sure exaclty what the problem was. if it comes back im def going to replace it.

The other thing to try for stuttering (not tearing) is to defrag your hard drive. I use Diskeeper which is a way better app IMHO than the default that comes with Windows. The only thing is that when I'm gaming I need to turn it off as the automatic defrag option sometimes slows things down when I don't want it too. The other thing to try is to control-alt-delete and see what's running in the background. Sometimes a stutter can be caused by apps or Services running in the background and need to be turned off.

I hope this helps.

Are you using stock clocks on your 8700's? And which drivers are you using?
