Hi,i have an acer laptop with a optiarc dvd rw ad 7560a drive,i downgraded from vista to xp home, now my dvd will only play cds,not dvds,no yellow marks in device manager, but in my computer it shows as dvd ram,can anyone help, thanks
Search around for a firmware update. This issue happens on even Vista after some updates, not just XP, and on many other laptop brands - for this particular optical drive.
xp does not contain a native DVD decoder. You will need to install DVD player software for it to play DVD's. In Vista, Home Premium and up (i believe) will contain a dvd codec natively and play DVD's in media player
tried bios ,uninstalled booted ,reinstalled vista, still wont play dvds, when i put a dvd in ,i go to my computer ,click on dvd rw,it opens drawer and says insert a dvd.
FYI, if you updated the firmware, try to burn some data to dvd, because the other day i tried to update the firmware of my friend's, and try to burn some data, but it keep failed to burn
I thought it might be a dirty eye and require cleaning, but if it was working well before the OS switch, then it has to be a driver or other software issue
