You'd prolly be upset too if someone with moderator status came 2 weeks late to the party and in less than 48 hours hijacked everything......
First, and for the record, it was a great idea to come up with a favicon for the site. Thank you very much for coming up with the idea!

Second, I appreciate that you submitted several favicons yourself to help and get us going on your idea. Thank you for that as well!

However...

I ask that you show the same amount of respect to Alcyone as you are demanding yourself. She had volunteered earlier in either the favicon submission or first favicon vote thread to make a poll when there were more options to choose from, and so now that there are more options to choose from, she made a poll. That's hardly hijacking anything.

Regarding which favicons went into the poll, Alcyone said herself that she chose them based on which ones got the most positive feedback. Unfortunately, I guess none of yours were among the ones chosen. That doesn't mean or imply anything against you personally - it's just the way it worked out.

Despite the language of some of your posts, nobody is out to get you or has some kind of personal grudge against you. However, what does bother people is constant complaining. Chances are, the more you complain about people having something against you, the more people are going to have something against you - but not because they did in the first place, just because they're sick of the complaining.

Great thinkers aren't always great doers.

I would normally agree with the whole 10 different designs but the whole thing was a bit disorganized. Every member of the forum had more than two weeks to create something and from what I recall, this is the best that was submitted. There's always the opportunity to get a head start on making icons if you feel competent.

It seems I did not make this poll correctly. When the poll is closed, someone else can decide what to do from there, be it create another poll or use the results from this one for the new favicon. I am finished with trying to help this forum..

I would incline to disagree with you here Alcyone.

You have done brilliantly in streamlining the ideas (submissions) into this one thread, making the choosing of NBF favicon more organised.

As many posters have stated, NBF users all have time to submit additional ideas, and they can all inform you to add to the poll. If they don't, that is their lost chance to orderly submit good ideas to the forum.

So, you see, you are not finished with helping this forum out It would be a disaster with whiners and complainers running amok here.

cheers ...

I respect the effort as much as the next, Im disapointed that Alcyone was self appointed judge, jury, executioner about what icons made the poll (especially after I asked to WAIT if for no other reason to discuss how the 10 would be chosen, hence the hijacking comment), Alcyone said they were the ones that got feedback, but indeed one of mine did and 2 that are in the poll didnt, that then is a left handed attempt at defending the action that obviously never took place and was very insulting to me.

You refuse to accept that Alcoyne's only motive was to be helpful, and instead of appreciating that, you go on this rant. The smart thing to do would be to either get over it, or find some constructive course of action, but I don't get the feeling that either of those is likley to occur. Of all the things that are wrong in the world, all the social injustice, all the wrongs people do to each other, it seems greatly out of proportion that you are getting this upset over this truly trivial matter.

Really, think about how angry you are, and then look around. Is this really that big of a deal? I don't know you or your circumstances, but I just can't relate to why this is such a major life altering trauma for you.

At this point, if there was a new poll that included all of your submitted icons, I would make sure to not vote for any of them, just on the principle of not rewarding your for all this childishness.

And I object to your use of "left handed" as a term to imply deviousness, or evil.

I don't believe in your comment of Alcyone being self-appointed judge, jury and executioner of anything.

If you looked at what NBF has allowed and left free rein of many good inputs within the forum, that statement would never apply to any of us here.

Alcyone was just (and will always be, as us Mods and Admins) using her well-earned abilities to help streamlining inputs efforts from many users.

I am surprised at this statement as well. It is within your own cool thread of NBF favicon that others suggestions and submissions are being made.

Furthermore Alcyone was correct in including your most and current submitted favicon out of the lot. I would be personally feel very ok that it takes other 9 submissions to go up against one of mine ;-)

Again, I did not read anywhere that Alcyone was left-hand defending herself.

Her effort was to streamline the process. And she did so in a timely and professional fashion.

And I want to remind you that you did receive special treatment, if one can say so, to have one of your good inputs up as the current NBF favicon, so fast and quick, thus in an advantageous position over the rest. May be you can think about these things, prior feeling being insulted by Mods and Admins.

cheers ...

I prefer the current favicon. I voted 10.

Looks like #9 is starting to pull ahead. As someone mentioned a lot of sites are doing initials so that may be a better route... I like it! Good work Djembe!

Well, if you're going to get into specifics, I was the one who told her that there were enough submissions to make a poll, so feel free to blame me on the timing.

As I see it, arch, your main point is that you feel like people were intentionally ignoring or devaluing you. I've tried to both express thanks for your initial idea and your momentum in getting favicons submitted and demonstrate that no one acted with a desire to cause you emotional harm.

The is a difference between actions that are deliberately insulting and those that are taken to be insulting but had no intention of causing offense. For instance, I can choose to be insulted because you used the term "left-handed" in a derogatory way and I'm left handed. However, I highly doubt that you knew that, so I don't hold it against you. Alcyone took the 10 best options and put them in the poll. If there was space for more options in the poll, then more options would have been included. There was NO offense meant and it was clearly stated that if anyone preferred a favicon not in the poll, then they could say so.

So now I'm changing tactics. You are welcome to express a desire for one of the favicons you made. You are welcome to campaign for your favorite.

But you are NOT welcome to deliberately demean a Notebook Forums moderator because you didn't get your way, and if you continue to do so, I will ban you.

I propose a completely new way to run with something like this (large number of things to vote on):

Model it after March Madness.

Group ALL submissions into subgroups, post polls for these subgroups. The winners of the subgroups go on the the next round, to run on the following week. For our case, just having two rounds would be enough.

Of course that's a bit of work there. But not too much I think. Meh, I don't care all that much about the topic in any case.

I considered that. While it would include all submissions, it would also require at least 3 polls (2 preliminary and 1 final) and from past experience I don't think the average NBF member has the patience for it. That's why I prefer the one-poll method.

Lies, damn lies, and statistics. My way is best. You know it. I know it. The onlooking World knows it. Hell, my pet hamster knows it.

Wow, you got your hamster to agree with you? That's pretty impressive! You should go into the hamster training business.
