T400 suggested upgrade path?

Thread Starter
Ok, so I'm buying a Lenovo T400, and this table shows what it has in it.

What's the suggested upgrade path to make this machine the best it can be? How far can it be taken? (CPU, Graphics card, etc)

Thanks in advance for any help, info that's offered...

It is a solid machine with good specs. How about using it for a while first before tinkering with it?

cheers ...

Haha...definitely good advice...it's good to know where the limits lie though... This machine is definitely gonna be a LOT mo' better than my current "lap" top (Satellite P25-S507).

looking forward to next week when I finally get it in hand...

Count on it...and I'll take a good look at the best ones that have been done so far and try to mirror the formats as close as possible.

Okay, potential upgrades.

well let's see... The fastest CPU Lenovo offers is the dual-core 2.8 Ghz T9600. You could put in a quad-core CPU if you wanted (2.53 Ghz QX9300, 2.26 Ghz Q9100, or 2 Ghz Q9000), although it would be expensive to do so. You can also upgrade up to 8GB memory, which you probably won't need to do anytime soon. You've also got a near limitless range of upgrade option for the hard drive, from SSDs to higher capacity 7200RPM drives (currently they go up to 500GB, as I recall). You can upgrade your wireless card to one with the final version of 802.11n when it's released. And if you got the 6 cell battery, you can upgrade to the 9 cell battery.

That's about it. The graphics card cannot be improved or changed. The screen can be switched out, but whether it would be an improvement or not is anyone's guess. The chassis and motherboard can't be improved.

So that's as far as you can take the T400.

That was exactly what I was looking for...too bad about the graphics card...
