Are Gateway model MX6920 and MX6447 chassis interchangeable?

Guys,

I broke the hinge mount on my MX6920...are the bottom chassis' of the MX6447 and the MX6920 interchangeable? Or if I buy one for the MX6447, will it work with my MX6920?

They look the same, in form and size - should work.

uraceulose...I would be very careful. Sometimes the chasis will be the same size, and look very similar; however, in the laptop design world, there can be different mounting points for keyboards and motherboards. I've worked on a lot of laptops, an example of this would be two IBM T43 laptops I worked on. Identical sizes and everything. The only problem, one uses 4 screws to mount the keyboard, and the other use only 3, and the mounting points are completely different. I've had this problem on numerous dells, as well. If these types of designs are apparent with two of these well known manufacturers, then logically speaking, it would apply to Gateway as well.

According to the pictures on Gateway support, the motherboards look identical; however it seems as though the mx6447 has a bit more features. Despite the features though, all the mounting points look identical. Only problem is, I don't know the size and spacing. Here are the links to the pictures I found.

UPDATE: They are different! I found that your motherboard has an extra mounting point than the MX6447. I would not get that chassis. If the laptop is of high value to you, I'd take the 100 dollar hit and get the correct part, instead of gambling like this. Although similar in many aspects, the smallest discrepancy in a laptop part makes the biggest difference.

Just to be clear, there is absolutely no possible way to get my motherboard to bolt in to the mx6447 chassis correct?

Where is the extra mounting point at? I just wonder cause after staring at the pictures I still can't figure out what the difference is in the mounting points.

Did you ever find the correct chassis for your mx6920?I have the same broken hinge mount problem.Did you get the mx6447 chassis and find it compatable?
