Toshiba A45-S250 Replacement DVD Needed

I have a Toshiba A45-S250 originally equipped with a DVR-SK12D dvd burner which quit working 2 years ago. I need to replace this dvd with a bootable dvd, have since bought a TSST-L632H, and a sony DVR-SK12, both of which give me and IDE #1 error at boot.

After many hours on forums and the phone this past month, believe that I have a master vs slave vs cs vs inverted cs issue. I have tried a number of firmwares on the TSST-L632H, all of which give me an IDE #1 error at boot, and all of which allow me to use the dvd only after the computer is forced into standby.

Toshiba parts offers 3 replacements, priced between $162 and $281, but will not tell me what my computer expects to see in a dvd drive. I've already spent $100.00 on the TSST and the Sony, looking a solution for under $100 for this 6 year old computer!

I have contacted UltraDrives and several other drive providers, no one can tell me what I need for my computer.

Hoping someone out there has replaced one and can tell me what to buy, or at least provide a good answer to the Master/Slave/CS/Inverted CS question.

Thanks!

I know one thing from previous experiences on here with people changing optical drives on Toshibas, they must be purchased/preset to Master. No or very little success in changing the settings from slave, CS.

Problem solved!

Bought an Optiarc AD-7590A-01-OEM from Newegg for $49.99.

Plugged it in, same old IDE #1 error.

Obtained file G590A_ATAChange_Tool.exe from link in a Newegg review, got 4 options:
Normal ATA
Reverse ATA
Master Only
Slave Only

Selected Master Only, re-installed drive, now have a working, bootable dvd!

This is good new. Now Toshiba owners can now have better optical drive replacement option.

Thanks for the feedback.
