if i delayed my wi-fi connection startup, would that delay my wireless connection to dsl? i am pretty sure that you use a wi-fi connection to connect to this, but just want to confirm this.

DSL is one of many broadband services. It just sits there and wait for any connections from the recipient allowed IP address. How you connect to it, is up to you.

You can use wireless or wired (cable direct) to connect to your router/modem. And if you delay your connection to the router/modem, you delay your net access.

On my laptop, if I turn off my wi-fi adapter the laptop does not connect to my dsl connection. If I want to work on my laptop without being connected to the internet via my wi-fi router, I turn it off. So, if by delaying your wi-fi- startup, you mean turning off the wi-fi adapter, then yes, that would delay your cmputer access to the internet.

However, if you have a wi-fi card in a desk top for example, I don't know of an "easy" way to simply turn it on or off, other then to go into Control Panel/System and manually disable it.

ok. so i am also having trouble with my wi-fi connection. it is connecting to my dsl, but it is delayed on start-up. the wi-fi light is on to begin with. i go to open an internet browser, and it works, and connects fine. but there is still a red X where there should be a world symbol. what is going on here?

Probably another port representation. Screen shot?

Let us try this.

Review your wireless management tools. If you have 2 - one from Windows Zero Configuration (service), and another one that comes with the wireless device, disable one.

whoa. sorry, not sure how to do this. step by step guide please?

Windows comes with its own Wireless management service (Windows Zero Configuration), your comp probably has a start up process Wireless Manager tool that comes with the wireless device. Try disable this start up process - from msconfig, or cCleaner tool (my fav)

is it called in ccleaner "WMPNSCFG"? i think that has to do with something with windows media player. i can not find the progrma in ccleaner. i could not find Windows Zero Configuration either. any idea where the wireless manager tool is on a vista computer, and how i can access it?
