MX7118 - Help for a new member

I have a Gateway MX7118 and it seems that when I put a disc into the DVD drive the green light stays on and never reads the disc. Has anyone had this before and how do you correct it?

Wondering if your drive may need a cleaning. How old is the machine?? Over time, optical drives just give up the ghost.
