Aspire 4730Z - Hard Drive Upgrade?

Ok, so I picked up a 4730Z last week, and it has a 120GB HDD in it. I need a little more room, and am looking to add the full 4GB's of ram.

My question is which hard drive to get for this model. I'm not sure if I can use a 3.0 GB/s SATA or not or if I should get a 1.5 GB/s. I want at least a 320GB drive, but can't find any that specifically say there's a jumper option for 3.0/1.5. Any help is appreciated. Search function yielded me no results either for the 4730Z specs.

Are you talking about TBs (TerraBytes, not MegaBytes). If your laptop currently has a SATA drive, then you must go with another SATA. The only problem you may run into is whether it will recognize all of the larger drives.
If you are using Vista 64 bit, then your laptop will recognize and use all of the 4GBs, if a 32 bit version, then only 3-3.5GBs will be recognized.

Sorry...

I'm referring to transfer rates. I want a 320GB SATA drive. But i'm unsure if a 3.0GB/s transfer rate sata drive is compatable, or if I need to stick with a 1.5 GB/s transfer rate sata drive.

From what I have read, the interface between SATA I and SATA II are different. Might be doable in desktops with adapters but not in laptops.

it's the same. most likely you will have a hard time finding sata2 notebook drives, but honestly it does not even matter.

most notebook drives cannot use all the bandwidth that sata1 offers. Most sata2 drives will work fine on a sata1 controller with no problems. rarely, you may need to set a jumper on the drive. I have never had to jumper a sata drive.

honestly that's what i figured, but i'm new to laptops and couldn't find any real specs on my machine aside from the very limited information in the manual. i figure at 5400rpm, 3.0GB/s would be pretty far off. i already ordered a new hd from newegg and another 2gb's of ram.

Nice to know, have to file that away in the memory banks for future ref. My understanding was that the interface was different
