e4200 ultra performance ssd benches

had a dell e4200 with the ultra performance solid state drive upgrade in my hands for a day or two last weekend. i'd looked everywhere for benches on the upgraded drive before purchasing, but i couldn't find them anywhere. so when i got the computer i decided to take some benchmarks to help out any other shoppers.

couldn't take any write benchmarks because the drive was an o.s. drive. i believe this drive is an slc drive with samsung's second generation ssd controller.

i don't have access to the laptop anymore, so i might not be able to answer any questions you may have about the drive or the laptop itself. but i'll try my best.

the laptop itself was $800 after a coupon from the dell outlet. that price includes california's 9% sales tax and recycling fee.

the computer was pretty snappy for a ulv machine, probably due to the drive. but in hindsight i really should have gotten some random access benchmarks. ah well, maybe next time.

lol. im so used to seeing hdtune tests at 7ms.... not .2!

I ran HDTune on a notebook I'm testing with a SSD and my numbers aren't even close to those. I'm getting .7ms timing and under 50MBsec burst. What's the deal?

SSD's come in various quality categories. Most SSD's were not much faster than HD's awhile ago but these new (premium) SSD's blaze.

nw just have to wait for them to drop into the $ 200.00 range for a 128GB model

I did see some 256GB versions when I was in Japan in March.

Its gonna be another 3 or 4 years before I hop on the SSD bandwagon.
