Hi,

My Z63A is running an Intel 915GM card. Is it it possible for me to upgrade it wth a higher performance card?

The picture here (http://www.insidemylaptop.com/asus-w...rade-tutorial/) makes it seem possible.

If so, what would you recommend I get? Thanks, EK

The short answer: yes, it's possible, but it will cost you more than it's probably worth.

The long answer: in order to do it, you'll need to take out your current motherboard and replace it with a W3V motherboard. It's possible a W3J motherboard will also work, but you'd need to check whether all the ports line up. After that, you'll need to order and install the appropriate graphics card. You now have a functional W3V (or W3J, depending on which motherboard you installed) with dedicated graphics. However, this process requires a complete disassembly and reassembly of your notebook and will likely cost $300+ ($310 for the W3J motherboard + graphics card according to the Asus e-store) and it's up to you whether that's worth it.

Yep, i expected it to be more involved....and didn't think it was going to be direct swap. Well, thanks very much. I will wait for my turn to get a new laptop.

Thanks - EK
