Evidently it has to do with the location of the notch on the adapter tips and not the barrel center size.
The first adapter I was sent, the notch was preventing the tip from pushing onto the DC jack completely, thus allowing the tip to fall off of the AC jack and become disconnected (accompanied by a lot of sparks).
The new one they put on there connects great, but I haven't been able to turn the notebook on yet.
I just ordered a new battery so I can test the notebook with a battery to see if it will turn on. Kinda sucks to have to spend $150 though just to see if thats the problem or not.
Looking on Ebay today, seems you can almost build a brand new m9700 with all the spare parts floating around.
I had everything disconnected today, drained the power, then left the battery out and connected the AC adapter. I heard the fans kick on for about 10 seconds, then silence and after a couple more seconds all of the lights went off except the light that shows the little plug symbol.
That light stays on when the AC adapter is connected.
If I push the power button now, I hear nothing, the little LCD light comes on for a second, the power button light comes on (blue), but those 2 lights immediately turn off and I hear no fans or anything, but the little plug symbol light stays on.
