Windows 7 on a 3790?

Thread Starter
I just put Win7 on an old 3790 that I use for playing around now. It seems to handle the OS pretty well, with the exception of the built-in Intel wireless chipset- can't seem to find a driver for that guy in the 7000 build of Win7, and installing the factory disc with the Win 2000/XP drivers failed too. Has anyone else had any success with that build on a machine that old?

Did you run W7 update after installing it? I recommend connect it direct 1st, via NIC, then it is more likely that W7 would pick up the wifi driver in its database for you. This was how I did on my old Toshiba.

Hi Stank, any luck with the windows 7 drivers for the intel wifi chip set. I also have a 3790 I was thinking about giving my daughter but with Windows 7.

After 76 MS Windows XP updates and MS Office updates that took an hour, I thought it could probably handle making the leap to windows 7. I'd like to hear about your experience.

Thanks

I'm running Windows 7 on my Asus Z71V, which is around the same era as the Sager 3790. To make the Intel wireless card work, I needed to do the following steps:
  1. Download the latest Vista/7 driver for the wireless card from Intel's website
  2. Extract the file contents
  3. Go into Device Manager
  4. Right-click on the wireless adapter (it should be fairly easy to tell by being the only one that doesn't work)
  5. Choose "Update Driver Software"
  6. Choose "browse my computer for driver software"
  7. Then navigate to the folder containing the extracted driver and hit the Next button. Windows should then install the driverand you should be set!

Thanks for the info Djembe, I am finally getting around to doing this upgrade. I almost don't want to...this Sager, has been the most stable of the three computers in the house.

The upgrade advisor from microsoft also helps.
