Alienware closing both dedicated manufacturing plants- Dell plants will now build

Dell has finally absorbed Alienware, and they are no more.

Both of the Dedicated Alienware factories in Florida and Ireland are being closed. The systems will now be made directly by Dell, and In Dell Factories, and merely have the "Alienware" logo slapped on them. Tech support will now be Provided by Dell CS.

I dont know about you, but Dells are known for low Quality, and I really dont want a Dell.
The systems will say "Alienware", but thats all that will be Alienware. A rebranded Dell is not an Alienware system to me.

Its like HP and Compaq. You buy a "Compaq" computer, but you really know Its an HP with the Compaq name slapped on it. Buy an Alienware now, and you will really be getting a Dell XPS system.

Alienware Laying Off Employees

By Luke Plunkett on March 25, 2009 at 7:30 PM

Times, they are tough. And Dell, owners of PC gaming enthusiast brand Alienware, are no exception, with tech site ExtremeTech reporting that an undisclosed number of Alienware employees are facing the sack.

Citing an internal memo they obtained from an Alienware employee, it’s said that the group will be closing both of its dedicated manufacturing plants (in Miami and Ireland), with production to be shifted to parent company Dell’s factories. These closures will be accompanied by layoffs, though Alienware - while confirming the closures - refuse to put a number on how many will be affected.
Since it’s two entire facilities being closed down, it’s probably “a lot”.
Strangely, the move comes at the exact same time the company plans to expand its operations, with Alienware gaming computers expected to be released in 29 new markets across 17 new languages in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America over the next 12 months.

what about HP with Voodoo?
True, and many others for sure. But there are also the better way after being taken over, as in the case of Gateway, now within Acer

It all depends on how the brand is being supported after any take-overs.

I don't like this one bit. Alienwares plant in Flordia is one of a kind.

Yep, that is a shame. Is it not better that Dell chops some outsourced factories instead?

Well for those hopeful in regards to Alienware-Dell Production merger

Keep in mind that Dell has the worst customer service of all, and all the recent problems with CS (not the now defunct Roswell), and build quality of the systems (m15x), ALL this can be directly attributed to Dell's management pratices.

"Dell seems to get the brunt of the complaints, at least publicly. Formerly a leader in the field, Dell has dropped to the back of the pack of customer satisfaction among PC owners."

FORTUNE 500 (April 2009)
"Dell (DELL) basically flunked with a “poor” 58% rating overall and a “very poor” 47% in enjoyability."

I suggest that those running Vista/Windows 7 would be better off contacting Windows support sites (like Vistax64.com/sevenforums.com), rather then wasting your time contacting Dell/Alienware CS Unless it is a hardware falure and you are invoking the Warranty for repair/replacement.

You have to realize that since only part of Alienware has been eliminated, the new Dell people have to adapt to our system and the way we do things.
Even the team leader I've spoken to has requested for more help in person, but none has been afforded to them.

Dell/Alienware EMEA to cut more jobs

Dell is preparing to swing the job axe once again following its Q4 profit hammering when the firm was forced to jack up its cost-saving target by a billion dollars to $4bn last month.
The company told many of its workers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa this morning to expect to see compulsory redundancies brought in over the coming months as Dell attempts to keep a lid on costs and struggles to turn around profit.

Those up for the chop will have 90 days to stay on at Dell, with the first terminations expected to be implemented on 18 June.

I keep going to Alienware because of its unique look & manufacturing taking place away from the mainstream. Not too happy about this turn of events.

Did I warp back to 2005? Alienware users hating on Dell again. I recall Alienware made a few bad machines all on its own before Dell took them over.

The point is that now, Alienware will not be making "any" more machines. The dedicated Alienware plants are closing.

Dell is the direct manufacturer now, and most likely XPS and Alienware will merge assembly lines. it is also possible that "XPS" will become defunct, and they will be rebranded as "Alienware" rigs.

This is not good, considering that Alienware commands some good prices in Europe. I can see the value just drops a good 60-70% from the original

Weren't Alienwares just rebranded Sagers back in the day? The latest entry to the XPS series was balls (imo) and complete departure from what an XPS was. The Dell XPS series is pretty much dead now but I'm guessing the new Alienwares will still have an Alienware design based on reactions to the latest XPS. Anyway, I'll just leave you guys alone.

Edit: The old XPS series is pretty much lived on through the Precision series.

If Alienware prospers (and becomes better) after this re-organization within Dell, it will be good for end-users.

Too soon to really giving a verdict.
