Customizing Toolbars on IE8

I have a problem customizing the toolbars with IE8.
Theres a thing called the -separator- and i click on tools then on toolbars, then on lock the toolbar (in this case, unlock) which gives me the possibility of getting three tool bars on one line, so taking up less space vertically. Once I've done that I
click again and lock the toolbars.
Problem is ; When I quit the search engine and then come back on to IE, the toolbars revert to the way they were before
(even though they were locked). I've noticed that a dotted line remains between -Windows Live Search- and the -Whats new, Profile Mail etc etc., while all other formerly dotted lines became normal once I'd finished customizing and had locked the toolbars. There seems to be no information about this separator -- Wonder if anyone has any ideas on this.
Thanks in advance for any help ?

The only thing that comes to my mind is that this separator is the same one that one has on the task-bar.

A suggestion: after making the changes, if you hold down the CTRL and click on X (close) button, to close out the browser. Re-open it and see if any changes. This is only a wild guess.

cheers ...

Tks qhn, but it still doesn't solve the problem.
The only way I could keep the changes is never to close down to the desktop or get rid of a couple of toolbars, altho i need all of them, although i did manage to get the favorites button on the tab bar, but thats already programmed in the possibilities, and i notice i can get rid of the menu bar easily with the alt key and get it back the same way. Anway one good thing is the full screen possibility, even if you have to find your own way back again !

Yep. We might have a good chance, with IE8 is becoming more and more a stand alone package from Microsoft product.
