There is one thing that boggles my mind, why is it that the Dell XPS M1530 compared to a STUDIO 15 with nearly the same specs is like 300 bucks more expensive than the STUDIO? Is there soemthing more than just comparing raw specs? is it that the XPS's archtecture is totally different, that said, is much better than the SUDIO 15? Please I need to know how the XPS M1530 is better than the STUDIO in terms of performance, provided both have the same specs. thanks

How can you compare? Studio is Montevina and 1066Mhz FSB and XPS is Santa Rosa 800Mhz FSB. If DeLL is stupid go for it? Or explain?
|
Dude, it isn't, you can customize the STUDIO to get the Montevina platform, its penryn by default, the same as the XPS, what Im asking is that if both have the SAME specs, i.e same processor/Platform, then why is the XPS better in terms of performance?

So to help add info, Penryn is a line of CPU's? Santa Rosa and Montevina are platforms. The two you mention are different platforms. If all else is equal I would pick Montevina over Santa Rosa? What shocked me was the XPS/Santa Rosa costs more? I can't figure out. That is why I say go for it.

I am sorry I did not mean to be rude. I was truly at a loss?

Yes I know, I accidentally typed the processor type instead of the platform, I'll elucidate this a bit more for your convinience, The STUDIO still comes with the penryn chip, that said, it boasts the SANTA ROSA platform, however you can customize it get a P8XXX (Centrino 2) processor with the MONTEVINA platform i.e the 5th generation of processors by intel, the difference? FSB, "P"series processors boast an FSB upto 1066MHz compared to 800MHz offered by the "T" series processors, however a T9500 @ 2.4GHz is still > P8600 @ 2.4GHz...that I don't understand..

T9400, T9550, T9600 and T9800 all have 1066Mhz FSB.
You still seem confused on the entire platform thing. No current Studio 15 is Santa Rosa. Santa Rosa is the 965 chipset. Montevina has 45 chipset. Regardless of what CPU you put in Studio will never be Santa Rosa as it uses the 45 chipset. Santa Rosa can use some Penryns. Santa Rosa (965) only supports RAM @667Mhz max. Montevina (45) supports faster on the Studio 800Mhz. And up to 1066Mhz FSB.
T9500 is 2.6Ghz not 2.4Ghz. It has 6MB of L2 P8600 2.4Ghz w/3MB L2. I would still pick the Studio real world very similar performance. Faster RAM would help equalize in many applications.
But if you post the specs of your choices I could comment better. CPU, GPU, RAM and HDD. Instead of this rather circular discussion we seem to be involved in?
