my price range is 500-700 dollars.
the screen size should be either 15 or 13.

another question-where should i buy from?

Man from NYC? Say what you mean or want don't hold back? Oh sorry you did.

At that price range you are going to sacrifice GPU. Not all bad you never said gaming and really all current GPU/IGP's can handle the rest. Maybe not as good but good enough.

I don't know NYC but BB has much. Also NewEgg is great. What you want to focus on is a good CPU a Pentium C2 should be in your price range.

If you up your budget can get much more. Consider?

what is the best i can get in the price range i just mentioned?
and lets say i can exceed the price range- what do u suggest?

it all comes down to how much you can exceed the pricerange... they go up and can get from your range to downright insane.

Heavy programs, like photoshop, C++ programmer, coral painter can run fine on onboard graphic such as the lamest GMA X3100. The only thing you need is 2.0GHz CPU and plenty of RAM.. 2GB will be enought if you uninstall all OEM junks that hog system resources, otherwise find some comes with 3GB RAM. The onboard graphic laptops will sure saves you alot money.

However, if one of yours heavy programs included 3D programs like Maya or other 3D design programs that will definately required something more kicks. Talking about more then 2.4GHz+ speed CPU and discrete graphic card like Geforce 8700GT 256MB GDDR.

I think is better to order online because retailer charge hell alot. For the brand i barely can tell.. Dell, HP, Acer, Toshiba can be your option. Just go to some stores and have a walkthrought of all of them and see which one you comfort/love the best.

it comes with nvidia 9400m g

is it worth ordering it from dell outlet?
or is there a risk?

DeLL Outlet has good feedback. The stuff is in great shape and comes with warranty. Some not even used? That is a nice small system if in your budget? Yea sounds good to me.

If it does not state "refurbished/reconditioned" then it is not (normally/legally).
