Any precision M6400 owners with a Blu Ray Drive out there?

If you are, can you tell me wht model of Blu ray drive is installed?

Been looking into getting one,

It seems 9.5 mm high Sata Blu Ray drives do not exisit out there lol

I had always believed that SATA Blu Ray drive will be a bit thicker (12.7mm), ordering one of these for my Sony (also in many other notebook brands/models).

well unless the M6400 with the Blu ray option have a different base unit supplied it is definitley a 9.5 mm high drive with Sata I/F

Of course I also want a Blu ray burner option but that maynot be possible yet.

I see in Dell US site they offer a Blu Ray option, but no details on a Part number as of yet.

I also looked for a bluray option for my Latitude E6400 and could not find one as well. As far as I know both of our machines share the same parts. Goodluck in finding one and if you do please let us know.

Well I have seen the option now listed on Dell USA site, but not yet on Dell Canada's site.

I also know Panasonic has indeed made a 9.5 mm drive, but it seems to be shipping to laptop vendors only right now.

we may have to wait for a few more weeks before they hit the OEM market

Dell never discloses what brand any modular components are due to the fact they request bids from manufacturers on a near constant basis and their supplies switch more of than some people change their shorts.

The downloads section has firmware for 2 different 9.5mm slotload DVDRW, but no model numbers given for blu-ray drives. Half-way helpful info...

Well the guy on Ebay I bought my RGB LED screeen from, gave me a price of $ 549.00 for the Blu Ray drive.

Going to think about getting it, or waiting a few more weeks and see what else shows up but seeing how limited number of 9.5 mm drives are out there price is going to be high for some time IMO

the Lenovo W400/500 modular device's fit in the dell latitude/precision's,they also have a blu-ray drive available for those model's...I see some on e-bay,but they are expensive with a capitol E,probably not as expensive as from Lenovo though.

I didn't know the M6400 used the same modular drive's as the smaller latitude's and precision's.

Although that drive is a 9.5 mm, the case design is not the same as the M6400 drive bay.

The M6400 has a complete square design, the one you mention above has a extened side on the left side (rear View)

Now maybe the guts could be moved, but at $ 400.00 kind of a expensive test to try

I have not looked at pictures but I know alot of Lenovo hardware that is compatible with Dell's. The extended part to the left is because there is a piece of plastic blocking that area in the Lenovo's. However, in the Dell's, as you mention, its completely square. You just have to look at it like your M6400 is a Lenovo with that piece of plastic removed. The drive should still fit in the M6400 based on that. However, obviously you should check the width of the drive just to make sure. Anyway, yeah, its probably safer just to get a M6400 drive.

Well I just ordered a New M6400 laptop with the FX3700 GPU and the Blu ray drive.

Will post more info on the Blu ray drive specs when I get it.

Well i recieved my new M6400 today and pulled the Blu Ray drive out

it is a Panasonic UJ-232A, it the drive looks the same as the one above from IBM
