Replacement E1705 - What are people getting now?

Hey everyone.

I am sure this is an annoying thread but am wondering what people are getting nowadays for replacements for the E1705.

My E1705 has been great for the past 3 years I have owned it, but the vid. card (7900gs) just went bad.

I have 2 brand new replacements I could pop in, but as I have complete care I figured it might just be time to get this thing replaced under warranty as I did nothing wrong.

So, my question is.. what are people getting now for replacements?
I don't want to end up with some studio machine with no DVI output etc..

Any input for someone who got there system replaced recently?

It has been a mixed bag of results on this topic

Some have been given M1710 refurbs, some M1730, others 17 Studio laptops.

But you really do not know until you start the process - but you really do not have much of an agrument asking for a M1730, again it really comes down to the rep handling the case.

Your best argument is the GPU and the DVI port - this is how others have managed to get an XPS.

Good Luck

Thanks for the response.

I tried contacting dell (talk about an exercise in frustration).

After an hour of being on hold, being transferred around and explaining multiple times how it is not my motherboard (not integrated graphics) they eventually tell me that in a few more days someone will call to set up an in home repair.
According to this guy, they have some 7900gs vid. cards in stock so they will replace my card.
Don't know if I believe him (have a feeling I will be waiting a week for a call then when the guy finally does schedule an in home repair he will show up with an ati or a new motherboard).

Well, we will see what happens.

I am tempted to call again and speak with someone else, but will give it some time to see if maybe they do actually have some 7900gs' for repair purposes.

Dell does keep a supply of parts, so they may well have your GPU
