NoteBIOS corrupt?

I tried to boot a Linux based rescue disc onto my Compaq Presario 1200 XL118.It asked me to set my screen resolution or type "autodetect".I did not know which resolution to use so I typed auto detect. The screen went blank and it chugged away and finally stopped all activatey.I tried shutting it off so I could retry the boot process. As it shut down the screen flashed "writing to note-bios".When I restarted the laptop it splashed the "Compaq" logo and then said "loading note-bios".Then the screen goes blank and stays that way.I tried booting a floppy and a cd with no luck.

What has happened? Can it be fixed?Do I or can I clear the cmos.I believe the system must have a Phoenix NoteBIOS. But I am not sure.

Well I did get into the bios after all! I forgot Compaqs use F10 key.Not F1 or DELETE key.I set the bios back to defaults and "viola" I was back in business!

However I have a new problem. It appears the thing is getting to hot or low voltage or something. After 15-20 minutes it beeps loud 4-5 times and the screen goes blank.

Any ideas?

Maybe a bios timer for sleep/hibernate??? I'm assuming that you checked the power properties in Win.

I'll have to check the power settings when I get home. But I don't think it is going into suspend. When it happens it will not reboot fot quite some time.Almost as if it is cooling off.
