Installing Larger HD on Gateway M685

Thread Starter
My original 80G hard drive died (ironically, the same day I received notification of their bankruptcy/liquidation and therefore, the demise of my extended warranty...) and I've replaced it with a 160G hard drive.

Both are WD Blue Scorpio with essentially identical specs other than the size. Should this work? I'm getting sluggy, squirrelly performance--erratic, intermittent delays, programs that won't install (.NET, for example). Western Digital thinks it should work. Any experiences?

If the BIOS will only recognize a certain size of HD (seems like I see 137G, an interesting number, batted around out there) can I use Acronis or another utility to partition down to that size?

Thanks!.

Acronis, or GParted Live CD can help you partition the drive down (130/30?)

Erratic disk performances can be attributed to other factors such as disk controller, disk controller settings, indexing, fragmentation ...

cheers ...
