Asus N50Vn minor XP annoyances

So I just got the Asus N50Vn and after downgrading to XP, I'm loving it! There are some problems though, they're not really serious, but they are annoying, and I'm hoping someone here can give me a hand.

1. I don't know how to use my fingerprint reader! There's no application, or settings anywhere on the computer, even after installing the driver/application from the asus driver website. How do I get the fingerprint reader working in XP?

2. The buttons that aren't really buttons (they're not raised or anything) at the top of the keyboard that control things like power saving mode and the volume don't work, and are always lit up. I've installed almost all the drivers from the asus driver site with no effect. How do I get these buttons working, or the lights off?

So, like I said, I already went through the drivers on the asus website. So if anyone has any ideas, please help! Thanks soooo much in advance!

Drivers alone won't work. You might need to chase down the special apps that originally come with the comp, like Power Gear and the Biometric app. See if you extract these from your CDs.

cheers ...

The hotkey driver is ATK0100, and I'm sure you've installed that (since it controls ACPI as well), but the program HControl.exe must also be running for the hotkeys to work. The program should install along with the driver, but I saw on another forum that sometimes it needs to be extracted and run separately. If you've got multiple ATK*** drivers, then you might also have to install them in a particular order (I think ATKOSD is supposed to be first, but I'm not absolutely sure)

I'm not sure about the fingerprint reader. You might have to check for an XP driver at the fingerprint reader manufacturer's website if the Asus driver isn't working.

You wouldn't happen to know who the fingerprint reader manufacturer is for this laptop, would you?

sorry, I don't. If you download and run Everest, you should be able to find the manufacturer in there.
