HP Pavilion DV-5T 1017NR Charging Problem

I have a very strange laptop charging problem.

In order to charge the laptop battery, I "must" have to shut it down for around 3-5 minutes. Then it starts charging (and if i boot up after 5 minutes, then it also shows charging with charge %age increase in Windows).

But once I unplug the charger and charge it again in the Windows environment, it doesn't charge (Windows shows charging but the charge percentage does NOT increase).

Strangely, In order to charge it, I have to just shutdown it for sometime and then restart.

Its like Maybe some component or battery getting too hot that if i Shutdown, then it cools and starts charging and life is normal; but if it's too hot, then it doesn't charge.

All the LEDs of charging/AC supply are showing fine. If I remove the battery, then I can easily work without trouble on AC supply. The situation seems to be the same on Ubuntu Linux as well..

I am puzzled and don't know what to do

I have experienced this problem on two different machines now. It's just very strange.

Should I buy a charger with more output watts or something??

My specs are:

HP Pavilion DV-5T 1017NR
P8400
NVidia 9200GM
Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit

PS: Do batteries have refractory periods .. seems like mine one has

. Are the charger and battery OEMs?

. Have you tried to borrow another AC and battery to try out?

. Have you checked the power management to be sure that the system is not using "smart battery" option? meaning it will only charge the battery to a certain level, in order to make it last longer.

cheers ...

1- It's a refurbished model. If it means that the battery and charger were provided in the pack then Yes.

2- On the second machine, I changed the battery and charger as well. They worked perfectly at the place (a dealer's shop); but results were not fine at my home.

3- How can I disable this smart battery option?

. Battery specs call for 53W, 10.8V, 4800 mAh, 6 Cells

. AC specs call for 18.5V, 4.9A, 90W

. Open up your power management, review through the advanced options, that is where the battery management is located.

Funny that it works at the shop, and not at home. You might want to review the power sockets at home?

cheers ...
