9300 no boot after power plug swap

Thread Starter
Hello,

A month or 2 ago I found out that I had a bad internal power jack (intermittent charging). So I hunt around the internet and decide to buy one. I have a buddy who is good at soldering replace it for me. All went well with that. I reassemble the laptop and plug it in. It is now charging and all but when I try and boot all that happens is the the Caps Lock, Num Lock, and Scroll Lock lights turn on for about a second or 2 then they turn off. Also the "charging" light extinguishes when the others light. I get no beeps, fans or anything.

Now my buddy, said that he did a similar replacement on his daughters laptop and that "the board needed reprogrammed afterwords"?? I'm not sure what he means by this...

I double checked to make sure that I assembled it correctly. I put all the screws in bags and labeled them and so forth..

EDIT:
***SIGH*** well it seems that I was doing the error codes wrong.. I needed to hold down FN and power.. now all it shows is scroll lock which equals processor.?.? lets hope not.

As of now searching Google has not been of much help. Any help would be appreciated.

It is possible that your friend fried your motherboard. Dell does not replace the power jacks they replace the whole MB( I have had mine replaced 3 times). I am not saying this is certain just a guess. Maybe someone else has some ideas.

Good Luck!

He could of damaged it, they are not single layer pcb's but multilayer, which means their are circuits under one another. Get him to double check his work.

Simple test: Try to boot on battery power.
