Which version (32 or 64 bit) do Asus laptops ship with?

Looking at an F50, but it seems from readings reviews of it that it only comes with 32-bit Vista. Can I reinstall a 64-bit version or do I just have to go buy a 64-bit copy of Vista? If it matters, I have 64-bit installed on my desktop so I could use that media if the 32-bit key will work with it.

All Asus F50SV series comne stock with Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 (64 bit).

I believe that you can upgrade 32bits to 64bits with minimum cost.

cheers ...

This information is incorrect. Almost all Asus systems (except the G series and the W90) ship with 32-bit Vista. In order to upgrade to 64-bit Vista, you need to buy a whole new Vista license ($199 or so). The fact that so many Asus systems ship with 4GB RAM and 32-bit operating systems is my biggest gripe with the brand at the moment.

Yeah I thought they only came with 32-bit as well, unless I misunderstand what I've reading of the F50's specs.

Hopefully they'll move everything to 64-bit soon. It just hasn't happened yet.

And while the retail versions of Windows Vista come with both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the OS, I guess the OEM versions don't.
