N50V series problem

Thread Starter
My Asus N50V series, bought in January this year, has a very annoying problem; it just shuts itself off!!
It doesn't matter what I'm doing, the screen goes 'blink, blink', then black and the damn machine shuts down. Anybody else have the same or similar experience? I've asked a couple of people here what they think it might be but they have no idea. And another thing, and it takes an eternity to boot, seemingly forever. I'd have thought with a 2.53 duo T9400 Centrino 2 processor, 4 GB memory and a 320 GB HD it would be pretty quick - WRONG!!
Any ideas as to what the problem may be (it came with Vista), and oh, BTW, it's shut down twice in the time it's taken me to write this post.
Personally I think Asus is a heap of st but I'm currently in Afghanistan and a laptop is your link to the outside world so I'm stuck with it.
I had an American military colleague buy the machine for me, sent to a military PO, and even though it's under warranty it'll taken months to get it back to the U.S., have the problem rectified and mailed back to Kabul.

The problem could be one of many things: bad memory, loose power connection somewhere, overheating, a faulty video card, or a faulty motherboard

You don't have to send it to the US to get fixed. The nearest Asus service centers are in Iran and Pakistan. Contact info for both centers can be found here: http://support.asus.com/service/serv...Language=en-us

Just a quick suggestion:
Download a Linux Distro: Say Ubuntu 8.10 or 9.04 and create a bootable flash drive. If the computer boots up pretty fast still, then probably you have a corrupt vista or hard drive.
During boot process, you could also remove the splash screen.
If you get a kernel panic, during bootup, it may be indicative of faulty hardware.

With this Linux distro you can also check the shutdown problem.

If when using Linux, your computer does not shut down. after a prolonged period of testing, it is likely that you have a software problem. If it still does, hardware is to probably to blame
